Writer's pictureA Woman Of Her Words

Are You There, God, It’s Me—"a woman of her words"

Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.

Psalm 57:1

Are You There, God It’s Me—"a woman of her words"

I know that bold heading is the copy of the title of a Judy Blume book, Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret. Just wanted to give credit where credit is due, because I want to talk about some pretty serious stuff and I want to be square with You from the get go.

God, I know You are omnipotent, omnipresent, all-knowing, supernatural and my creator. I know the events of late here in the Southern United States and farther afield are on Your radar. I also know You can, with a wave of Your hand, do as You wish.

And so I write to You today, pray to You today, asking for help—asking You to be supernatural in Your love and caring for those who have felt the devastation of Hurricane Helene. We are tough folk here in the South, God, but forces of nature can overwhelm the best of us. Tumbling bridges and roads collapsing, carrying with them our work, our memories, our very way to get around can try the best of souls.

Because You still have so much in your purview I will be specific in my hopes and supplication. Please help us BY:

† aiding those who are taking help, food and medicine to people who have been affected

† making sure that those in physical and mental pain get relief

† keeping supply lines open worldwide so that supplies and food and materials will arrive for speedy rebuilding

† dispatching enough ministers, medical personnel, builders, suppliers, law enforcement people, and caregivers to handle the throngs of people who need their help

† giving all involved the strength to endure what they will need to endure

† giving each guardian angel assigned to each individual the power to buoy up their charges and to lift their spirits

† withholding the hurricanes at bay and those that might be in the future; withhold those, God, with your mighty hand so we can recover

† and finally, draw close to all who are working and helping, draw close and let them feel Your presence so they will hold it in their hearts and keep it there, even after the rebuilding and renewal has taken place.

Dear God, I pray fervently for these things. You know I am a Prayer Warrior at church and I will be there tomorrow to pray fervently for all who need Your help. Please hear my voice and the voices of my fellow Prayer Warriors, please hearken unto us and all who are praying concerning the help needed after Helene’s destruction . . . please, God, only You can help Your children who so desperately need your strength.
